Artist Statement

I am a London based performance and theatre artist creating work tackling femininity, sexuality, inequality, and identity. I believe that we live in a world of perception, where every choice we make defines how we see others and how others see us. I am a creator who utilises the influence of the conscious and unconscious aesthetics of our existence.

Being a queer female who strives to remain without stereotype or exist as a product of norms and expectations projected onto me by others, I engage in work that seeks to reclaim minority voices and re-establish the importance of those who now go unrecognised and unrepresented.

Some say, that to exist as a woman is to exist as a by-product of the fight against gender oppression that has come before you. Others say you are born into a revolution that will still be fought after you. I believe that a woman can place herself wherever she decides, and will, regardless of preference or position, make the choice to strive against being produced by a society that exists on the razor balance of gender superiority. For me, these choices are made through identity and my expression of that; what I wear, what I read, and where I place my energy.

My work aims to create a world where choices and expression of identity can suffice self-satisfaction without having an ulterior motive of revolution. To do this, we first need to establish the forces that act as barriers and suppressors to equality, and make it clear that some races, despite being deemed so, have not yet been won.

Categories of my creation fall into the taboo and 'grey' area of content, exploring issues such as male sexual assault, governmental. control, the one per cent, institutional homophobia, and more recently the lack of female recognition within the comedy and entertainment industry.
